Litquake’s opening night party celebrates the legacy of French science-fiction writer Jules Verne and the 150th anniversary of his first published novel, FIVE WEEKS IN A BALLOON.  With special guest Jean-Christophe Valtat, direct from Paris to celebrate the launch of his new book LUMINOUS CHAOS.  Jean-Christophe Valtat is the author of several books including the steampunk novels AURORARAMA and LUMINOUS CHAOS, part of the Mysteries of New Venice series.  Educated in the Ecole Normale Superieure and the Sorbonne, he lives in Paris and teaches Comparative Literature. Steven Brust and Skyler White, THE INCREMENTALISTS (Tor, Hardcover, $24.99) Saturday, October 12th at 3:00 pm - We're delighted to welcome Steven Brust to Borderlands for the first time!  The beloved author of the JHEREG books will be joined by his co-author, up-and-coming urban fantasy writer Skyler White.  Brust and White have a brand-new world to show you: Ours, but in which an ancient secret society tries to makes things better, a little bit at a time.  If only they could agree what that meant! Now there's a showdown brewing in Las Vegas between Celeste, recently disembodied, bitter, and increasingly unstable, and Phil, who has loved her for hundreds upon hundreds of years.  The battle will encompass and change this secret group, and maybe the entire world.

November 10th at 3:00 pm - Borderlands is pleased to host distinguished writer Jeffrey Siger, author of the Inspector Kaldis series.  These thrilling novels are all set in exotic Grecian locales.  From the book description: "Mykonos holds tight to its past even as it transforms from an obscure, impoverished Aegean island into a tourist mecca and summertime playground for the world’s rich, a process making the Mykonian people some of the wealthiest in Greece.  Yes, the old guard is still a force to be reckoned with despite the new money.  One of them, a legendary nightclub owner, has been found savagely bludgeoned in his home.  All evidence points to obvious thugs.  Yet the murder has put long hidden, politically explosive secrets in play and drawn a dangerous foreign investor to the island paradise.  Andreas Kaldis, feared head of Greece’s special crimes division, is certain there’s a far more complex solution to the murder than robbery, and he vows to find it."

Overnight, her promising new start becomes a nightmare.  At stake is her job, her reputation, her license to practice, and her already battered sense of self-worth.  Dot resolves to find out not just what led Ben to kill himself, but why her psychologist ex-husband, the man she most wants to avoid, recommended that Ben be hired in the first place.  Ben's surviving family and everyone else connected to him are determined to keep Ben's story a secret, by any means necessary.  Even Ben, from the grave, has secrets to keep."  We're excited to host Ellen and hope you'll enjoy BURYING BEN!
